Springtime in Ottawa means one thing… outdoor photoshoots! I get excited every year when I can finally take my work outdoors, but this year I’m especially thankful for this option to keep us all safe. Whether you’re taking engagement photos, wedding photos, or family photos, finding the right location is so important. Lucky for us, Ottawa has plenty of outdoor photoshoot locations to suit any style. These are some of my favourites.
Just a few kilometres from downtown Ottawa you’ll find the Central Experimental Farm. I love this outdoor photoshoot location for its wide open fields and variety of backdrops. In the spring and summer you’ll find gardens galore, and a sunflower field that sets the perfect scene. But whenever you decide to make your way there, you’re sure to come away with amazing photos. And hey, it’s physical-distanding friendly!
If you can find a quiet corner of the ByWard Market, it’s one of the best outdoor photoshoot locations in Ottawa. I’ve had many couples tell me the Market is where they first met, or went on their first dates; I love helping recreate those first moments! Besides the obvious major landmarks, there are some hidden corners that make for some pretty great photos. But timing is key! If the crows can be avoided (even pre-pandemic), we can make some magic.
Victoria Island is one of downtown Ottawa’s best kept secrets! Just West of Parliament, it’s a rare opportunity to see these buildings from the Northwest, overlooking the water. So if you’re looking for that classic Ottawa backdrop without the touristy feel, this is the place!
Manotick is a small and quiet village just outside of Ottawa, and it’s absolutely beautiful. Once you arrive, you’re walking distance away from so many stunning outdoor photoshoot locations including Watson’s Mill. Everything moves at a much slower, laid back pace in Manotick, and I’ve always enjoyed photographing couples and families here.
Who knew there was such a gem in the West End of the city? Located in Kanata, Walter Baker Park is home to vast green space, beautiful trees, ponds and even a large gazebo (oh, and a playground for the kiddos). It’s one of my favourite places to take family photos.
Because, why not?
If you’re planning an outdoor photoshoot in Ottawa and you’re looking for a photographer, you know where to find me!
