At yesterday’s Mackenzie King Estate Engagement Photography session, we went out to the Mackenzie King Estate, which is one of our Canadian heritage sites. We arrived just before sunset which is perfect for engagement photography at this time of the year. At that time of the evening, the air is cooler and the sunlight is softer. Great quality of light makes a big difference to your photos, and sunset is the best time of day.
We did a bit of walking around the site as there are lots to see in the area. It was quiet and most of the visitors were already gone, which gave us extra flexibility in using the location as a backdrop. We had the whole space to ourselves! We walked down a few trails with a couple open fields. Also one of our favorite spot was one of the big and beautiful formal gardens at Moorside. The freshly mowed lawn and vibrant garden colours was nice touch.
Confidence is something that really comes across in photos. How we feel is very visible, and confidence is that secret sauce that will help you fall in love with your photos! So, don’t worry too much about posing. I can guide you to positions that will flatter you both. My advice is for couples to focus on each other rather than me. Thinking about your connection and relationship; how happy the other makes you feel, means you can think less about the camera.
I often pay close attention to where the sun is during my sessions. I love photographing my clients during the ‘Golden Hour’ as the sun approaches the horizon. During that time, it gives us the opportunity to make magical sun flare shots. It’s always one of my favourite moments.
Towards the end, we did check out the ruins as well. And that was a nice way to end it, in this historical area.
We talked about what their own wedding plans where they’re both getting married in Tanzania. So these engagement photos we’re just going to go towards their planning and everything before they head out for the wedding. So it’s a great session and I look forward to my next one.
After the Mackenzie King Estate Engagement Photography session, I’d really fallen for the location. I’d really love to shoot a wedding here. There are so many great locations, and I can understand why it’s such a popular location for couples planning a wedding. If you’ve booked this venue for your wedding day, I’d love to hear from you!
