Winter gets a bad rap, especially in the world of weddings. When most people picture their big day, they see a sunny beach ceremony, or a backdrop of fall foliage. Don’t get me wrong, those options are amazing, but I’m here to stick up for the underdog! Here’s my defense of winter weddings.
It’s my job to capture every perfect moment on your wedding day, and let me tell you, a backdrop of bright, white snow, and gently falling flakes makes my job a little bit easier. Add a couple getting cozy fireside or a bridal party wearing matching fur coats? Magic! If you ask me, a stunning, snowy wedding photo rivals a sunny summer snapshot any day!
Since winter falls outside the busy season for most wedding vendors, you’ll have your choice of venue, wedding planner, florist, photographer (cough cough), and more, not to mention less competition when it comes to choosing your ideal wedding date. Bonus? Prices tend to be lower in the off-season, too.
Your winter wedding will naturally have a different style and feel than a summer or fall event, so there’s a better chance your wedding—and by extension your photos—will stand out from the crowd. Your romance is unique, and your wedding can be too!
There’s a reason summer is known as “wedding season” (or at least it used to be, pre-COVID). Weekends from May to September are often jam-packed with weddings or wedding-related events. Opting for a winter wedding means your guests won’t be suffering from wedding fatigue; they’ll probably be excited for the excuse to leave home during those cold winter months.
A honeymoon in the wintery months can be special too; enjoy time fireside in a cabin in the woods, or explore a forest that’s newly crowned with snow. When it’s safe to travel again, winter weddings also mean a tropical getaway offers a welcome shift from the regular routine.
It’s hard to explain how magical a winter wedding really feels. The romance, the twinkle lights, the sparkling snowflakes… it all comes together to create the perfect backdrop for your special day.
So, if you’re dreaming of a winter 2022 wedding, I say go for it! And if you’re looking for a photographer that loves winter weddings, you know where to find me!
